What’s worth fighting for?
This is a question I’ve been thinking about constantly the last few weeks. See, I have this tiny red head, and she is amazing, made in God’s image, and strong willed. That strong will is a BEAUTIFUL thing, but it has to be aimed and discipled, which is HARD.
I was listening to a parenting podcast a couple months back and something a dad said about his daughter resonated with me: “I want to teach her the right things to fight for.” The right things. What an amazing dad. What a hard job. What a beautiful result.
It got me thinking that I have included this concept a lot in my books without realizing it:
- Kaylan and Nick have to learn to fight for one another.
- Kaylan has to learn to fight for joy.
- Nick has to fight for his team and for answers, even if they are uncomfortable.
- Micah has to learn to fight for a new team and new dream when his direction changes.
- Casey is a fighter for the teens she works with, but she has to learn fight to be vulnerable with her heart.
And my new characters are no different.
- Brady has to learn to fight for the present and future he has in front of him and quit chasing the past.
- Kenzie learns to fight for the good plans God is giving her and not her own way.
We are all fighting for or learning to fight for something. A right perspective. A right view of God. Good relationships with those around us. Peace. Joy
And while we wrestle, the battle is His. Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still.”
Honestly, that feels like a relief. Praying that whatever you find yourself doing today that you fight for the right things and remember the One who is ultimately fighting for you.
Maybe the best thing you can fight for is to be still in this crazy world.
