When planting season feels pointless…

We did a thing last month.
After almost five years in our house, we finally finished the front landscaping. Decades ago, trees had been planted where a flower bed should go. Over time, the roots grew under the house and started causing foundation issues. Last year, we ripped out all the trees—which I learned is not the easiest process.
Then we had a baby in the middle of planting season.
Fast forward to this April: we bought the landscape border, tilled up the grass and old roots, added fresh dirt, planted flowers and bushes, and spread mulch.
Voila.
It looks so good.
It feels so good.
Now comes the watering…and the hoping that these little plants will survive a Texas summer. If all goes well, this time next year they’ll be bigger, stronger, flourishing. That’s the thing about planting—it’s a long game.
I feel that deeply in so many areas of my life, especially parenting. We plant, we water, we wait. And we pray we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9). If you’re there too—tired, still planting, not seeing much growth yet—you’re not alone.
Keep planting.
Keep watering.
Don’t give up.
What are you planting (and hoping will reap a harvest) in this season? Leave a comment! I would love to know.
