It took me a while to land on a word this year. And instead of choosing a million goals this year, I’m building my decisions and time and energy around this simple but impactful word: Intentional.
I’m learning a lot about what it means to be intentional. It means a conscious decision to lean in when I would like to walk away. It means a deliberate effort to expend energy…or not. It means consistency. And it also means freedom because I’m not trying to wear every hat, just the ones the Lord has placed in front of me in this season. I know that what, where, with whom, and how I’m intentional will change over the course of the year. I find a lot of freedom in flexibility with that truth, too.
So in this season, I’m working to be…
Intentional with my kiddos, especially as we add a new one.
Intentional with my husband, to grow our marriage and enjoy our time.
Intentional with relationships, being present and assertive with the ones God has placed in my life in this season.
Intentional with writing, knowing that it looks different in every season.
Intentional with inputs. Gone are the days that I will finish a movie or book just to finish. If I don’t enjoy it after 20 minutes, I move on.
Intentional with knowing what I can and can’t do this year. Gardening with a newborn is just…not gonna happen.
Intentional with my priorities and rest, which means my no’s and yes’s carry weight.
For me this year, intentionality brings freedom to pivot and accountability to rise to challenges and priorities. I’m excited for how the Lord will use this word for me this year.
I even chose a verse to partner with it: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). Doesn’t get more intentional that that!
Do you choose a word or goals for the year? I would love to know!
